Fewer than 30% of hotel guests have experienced a ‘better-than-expected quality of sleep’, according to a recent study by J.D. Power.
To honour National Relaxation Day on 15 August, and to help you provide your guests with the best quality sleep possible, we have pulled together our top tips on helping your guests relax.
If you aren’t already, offer a turndown service
Many guests may not notice or believe that a turndown service is just a luxury but there is a lot to be said about the effect of a sleep-ready room. Experts believe that by making small changes in a room, such as closing the curtains, introducing a relaxing scent, turning off technology and dimming the lights, prompts the mind and body to switch off.
Encourage pre-sleep activities
Provide your guests with helpful hints and tips on having the most relaxing and effective night sleep with the introduction of a dedicated guide that’s included within your turndown service. It could include recommendations of relaxing playlists to listen to before bed, walks they can take in your area or grounds to promote tiredness as well as relaxing treatments or massages included in your spa offering that will help send them off into a deep sleep. This personal touch will positively affect your guest’s overall hotel experience, as well as potentially benefit your spa bookings.
Make your beds fit for a Royals
J.D. Power’s research report also explored what factors contributed to a better-quality night’s sleep, with comfort of the bed and quality of pillows topping the list. This also supports the research report we commissioned in 2017, which saw over 89% of respondents voting for pillows and a quilt with good bounce as a must-have for a hotel bed.
Our ‘Under the Sheets’ research also proved the linen on a hotel bed is just as important as the bed itself, with 89% of guests surveyed saying they are put off by dated linen. Keep your base linen clean and comfortable, while using throws and cushions to add the extra touch of luxury.
Investing in quality bedding and mattresses is a key way of ensuring your guest experiences a peaceful slumber.
