Road Safety Smart Ltd and CLEAN Linen & Workwear Garner Dual Nominations for Pioneering Fleet Safety Initiatives
In addition, Road Safety Smart Ltd has been shortlisted for the Dr Will Murray Award for Action and Analysis, thanks to the ground breaking project they have been working on with CLEAN Linen & Workwear. This project has set new standards in road safety and risk management, showcasing the power of collaboration and innovation.
We are also proud to share that Road Safety Smart Ltd, in partnership with CLEAN Linen & Workwear, has been nominated for the Fleet Safety Partnership Award. This nomination is a testament to both organisations' outstanding work over the past two years to enhance fleet safety and operational efficiency.
Background and Context of the Collaborative Project
In April 2022, CLEAN Linen & Workwear decided to adopt a proactive approach to road safety, implementing a comprehensive process across all seven of their sites. The goal was to address the persistent issue of collisions and improve the quality of investigations, which had previously been inconsistent.
During our research, we discovered Andrew Drewary of Road Safety Smart Ltd, an independent investigator with over 20 years of experience. After thorough discussions and consultations, we designed a road map in June 2022 to incorporate all key areas necessary for our success.
We conducted a root-and-branch review to future-proof our policies, investigations, and outcomes. This included delivering company-wide interactive training workshops to all key stakeholders, including drivers, senior management, and members of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT). The first telephone interview took place in early July 2022, marking the beginning of our new independent investigation process, regardless of severity.
Positive Outcomes and Future Prospects
The results of this initiative have been incredibly positive. We now have a fully centralised process that ensures consistency in all investigations. This not only benefits collision investigations but also enables us to target evidence-based learning for operational staff within the traffic offices.
Our fully audited processes allow us to hold site teams accountable, with weekly internal Transport Management review meetings that incorporate safety, compliance, and service levels. We can monitor root causes by category, identify contributory factors, and analyse trends by driver, site, and group.
Driver coaching is now an integral part of our telephone interviews, aiding in the improvement of driver behaviour and supporting our cultural change efforts. We remain committed to training and coaching, and we are now better informed about when to intervene with drivers having multiple incidents.
We are immensely proud of the progress we have made and the recognition we have received. These nominations are a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved. We look forward to continuing our journey toward excellence in road safety and fleet management.
Stay tuned for more updates as we approach the awards ceremony!
