CLEAN clinches Safety in Operation Award at Motor Transport Awards 2023
Posted on Nov 17, 2023
The Motor Transport Awards have been the standard of excellence for UK road transport fleet operators, vehicle manufacturers and innovators for over 37 years. During the Motor Transport Awards ceremony in 2023, CLEAN received the Safety in Operation Award at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.
The company’s fleet management, driver training initiatives, and comprehensive safety measures stood out among a competitive field of nominees. The Safety in Operation Award, presented by TVS Interfleet, acknowledges CLEAN’s exceptional efforts in maintaining the highest safety standards within our transport operations. Over the last year, safety initiatives have focussed on improving incident investigation processes to identify the root cause of all collisions and near misses. A fresh approach to accident investigation by outsourcing collision investigation to independent auditors has revealed areas for improvement and training, even leading to the adoption of new practices and processes. Interviewers can produce an incident report within seven days by interviewing drivers immediately after incidents. All vehicle incidents are now centrally monitored with monthly trend reviews to introduce targeted training. As a result, one initiative is the successful ‘get out and look’ (GOAL) campaign after discovering that drivers experience many collisions while manoeuvring at slow speeds, particularly under 5mph. The transport team’s ability to optimise operational processes and dedication to ensuring the wellbeing of its personnel has set a benchmark across the transport industry.
“It’s a massive achievement for the entire transport team and the business. Getting our people home safe every day is the driving force behind all that we do, and it demonstrates that the top-down leadership that CLEAN adopts bears significant results. The support that we receive from our Senior Management Team is amazing. Our dedicated site transport teams and drivers have been vital in delivering safe transport services, actively participating in regular safety campaigns. Their hard work and commitment have been essential to our success. We are rightly proud of their professionalism and fully recognise their outstanding contribution as experts in their field of work whilst delivering a first-class service to our customers. We will celebrate our award but not rest on our laurels. Our mission is to keep people safe every day and will continue the hard work to make this happen.” said Peter Cox, Head of Transport.
The judges said: “CLEAN’s was an excellent submission meeting all criteria. It followed a very structured approach, demonstrating results that benefit the company and employees. It was great to see the engagement with drivers to ensure their wellbeing is taken into consideration. This company has gone to a third party for assistance in reducing collisions and accidents and has run with it.”
The transport sector widely considers the Motor Transport Awards a benchmark for excellence. CLEAN’s success in winning the Safety in Operation Award further solidifies its position as a leader in road safety, dedicated to ensuring the highest standards of safety and efficiency in its operations. This success comes not long after the company celebrated attaining RoSPA Fleet Safety Awards across several laundry sites, with Camberley and Slough picking up Gold Awards and Ross-on-Wye achieving a silver award at its first attempt.
